Congressional Term Limits Act
Section 1: Short Title
This Act may be cited as the “Congressional Term Limits Act”.
Section 2: Term Limits for Members of Congress
(a) Limitations on Service in the House of Representatives: No person shall be elected to the office of Representative in the United States House of Representatives for more than three terms.
(b) Limitations on Service in the Senate: No person shall be elected to the office of Senator in the United States Senate for more than two terms.
(c) Applicability to Current Members: The limitations on service set forth in this section shall apply to any person who is elected to the House of Representatives or the Senate after the date of enactment of this Act.
(d) Definition: For the purposes of this Act, the term "term" means any period of two years for a Representative in the House of Representatives, and any period of six years for a Senator in the United States Senate.
Section 3: Effective Date
This Act shall take effect beginning with the next Congress following the date of enactment.
Section 4: Severability
If any provision of this Act, or the application of such provision to any person or circumstance, is held to be unconstitutional, the remainder of this Act, or the application of the provision to other persons or circumstances, shall not be affected thereby.
